We are delighted to be joining the AAPG Academy webinar series to present this free webinar on "A New Approach to Integrating Seismic and Geological Stratigraphy into Geological and Reservoir Modelling".

Geoscientists usually build their data-driven stratigraphic models from the interpretation of a few major horizons, mostly based on key seismic reflections, well markers and significant lithostratigraphic breaks from logs. They therefore face the challenge to connect depositional sequences from literature, conceptual physics-based models and geological interpretation from both seismic and well data, to build reservoir models without losing details below the seismic resolution.

The authors here use both synthetic seismic data from a digitized analogue model and real-world basin seismic datasets to show how the Relative Geological Time ‘RGT’ method (Pauget et al, 2009) enables to characterize depositional sequences at well log resolution, and build a 3D time lapse movie of the subsurface.

This high-resolution stratigraphic framework ultimately drives a new constrained forward stratigraphic modeling 'C-FSM' method that simulates the geology according to deposition environment data provided by cores and logs, at low-to-high stratigraphic order. Like traditional FSMs, C-FSM uses geological processes to model geology and thus surpasses geostatistical algorithms to represent geology. But unlike traditional FSMs, it uses seismic, lithofacies, and production interpretations to constrain the deposition processes, fitting with the input data, simplifying the parameterization, and accelerating modeling time.
