From the burgeoning hand-drawn seismic interpretation efforts to the most advanced computer-aided technologies, it took more than 6 decades of hardwork, resilience and adaptability from worldwide geoscientists to reach the current state-of-the-art seismic interpretation techniques. Today the task of a seismic interpreter has radically changed as a result of technological advances, new computer-aided interpretation method and exponentially-enhanced computational power. At the convergence of geological and geophysical applications, the interpreter role is more and more involved cross-disciplinary tasks and cross-thinking patterns as a combination of science, intuition and collaboration. In this big data revolution, are we at the edge of a new seismic interpretation era? What new technologies can become game-changer and mark the next fundamental shift in seismic interpretation?
