PETRONAS through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), and Eliis Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Accelerate AI/ML Innovation in Malaysia’s Upstream Industry

Eliis, a global leader in advanced geoscience interpretation solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PETRONAS through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), to accelerate the integration of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) and High-Performance Computing (HPC) technologies into Malaysia’s upstream industry.

This strategic collaboration will leverage Eliis’ flagship platform, PaleoScan™, and PETRONAS’ basin-wide 3D seismic datasets to co-develop next-generation interpretation tools powered by AI/ML and optimized for HPC environments. The initiative reflects Eliis’ commitment to delivering cutting-edge solutions that enhance interpretation and operational efficiency, reduce exploration risk, and support sustainable energy development.

On this milestone, Benoît Matha, CEO at Eliis, added “This MoU between Eliis and PETRONAS demonstrates our joint commitment to leadership in geoscience, AI, and Exploration & Production (“E&P”) best practices. Together, we will accelerate PETRONAS and its Petroleum Arrangement Contractor (“PAC”) partners’ ability to optimize the potential of Malaysia’s natural resources.”

Under the MoU, Eliis and PETRONAS will work together to design and deploy advanced functionalities within PaleoScan™, combining innovative AI strategies with geophysics and geological modelling technologies, tailored to Malaysia’s geological context. These innovations aim to shorten prospect maturation timelines and accelerate decision-making for Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs) and open areas.

Key objectives of the collaboration include:

• Co-developing localized AI/ML models and pioneering use cases for Malaysia’s upstream sector.
• Utilizing HPC capabilities to process large-scale 3D seismic volumes for faster and more accurate interpretation.
• Driving knowledge transfer through technical reviews, workshops, and training programs.
• Exploring joint industry projects (“JIPs”) to extend HPC-enabled PaleoScan™ solutions to other upstream players in Malaysia.

By combining Eliis’ global expertise in geoscience software with PETRONAS’ vision for technology transformation, this partnership will foster innovation and strengthen PETRONAS’ position as an attractive investment destination, while supporting long-term industry sustainability.
