Applied Geoscientist – Data & Machine Learning (Brazil)

We are looking for an experienced Applied Geoscientist to join our team, working with a strategic client in Brazil to strengthen data management and enhance the quality of our flagship software, PaleoScan™.

About the Role

Location: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Contract Type: Full-time

Languages: Portuguese, English (fluent)

Your Responsibilities

  • Design and develop technical solutions to enhance data quality and data management of seismic and well data, commonly using programming skills (Python, Javascript or C++).
  • Implement machine learning models (data processing, feature engineering, statistical analysis, parameter tuning, model evaluation and maintenance).
  • Provide clear technical instructions to other software developers and maintain good development practices.
  • Write technical reports to document monthly activities.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for clients and other stakeholders.
  • Work closely with the development team in Montpellier, France, maintaining regular communication in English.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

  • Degree in Geology, Geophysics, Geography, Oceanography or Physics (MSc or DSc degrees are a plus).
  • 3 years of experience in data management, software development or geoscience roles (experience in seismic/well data management is a plus).
  • Good knowledge in programming (Python and/or Javascript, and/or C++).
  • Previous experience with Machine Learning solutions.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Algorithmic thinking and ability to propose and develop efficient workflows.
  • Attention to detail: ability to write and review documentation, technical reports and proposals.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work independently and collaborate with local and remote teams.
